Broadband in Montana
The unique geographical attributes of Montana (Rocky Mountains etc) consistently pose challenges to full scale deployment of readily available broadband services. This situation is an example of the oft used phrase “Digital Divide” which refers to the economic disparities created by a lack of decent internet connectivity. However, the state continues to work with the private sector to generate more internet access options for those rural or underserved areas. For example, Microsoft started the Microsoft Airband Initiative for over 60 thousand citizens, most of whom live in the Flathead Reservation. This project will attempt to deliver high speed connections using via airwaves by tapping unused TV spectrum.
