Broadband in Georgia

In 2018 the state passed the Achieving Connectivity Everywhere act which subsequently created the Georgia Broadband Deployment Initiative. The primary goal for this organization is to bring fast internet connection speeds to underserved rural areas. Under this program, local governments can apply for “Broadband Ready Site Designation” status by demonstrating a commitment to network infrastructure development. If these areas work towards removal of typical broadband deployment barriers, then the state will consider financial allocations that will incentivize providers to invest in the area. A statewide mapping project of underserved counties has also been undertaken to help identify gaps in coverage.
